Welcome to Hunter’s Lodge!
Hunters Lodge was built before the turn of the century as a railroad depot and then transformed into a cannery. The only method of getting to the site was by railroad with a train car turnaround right in the center of the Green Lawn that still exists today. The railroad tracks still run in front of the Hunters Lodge building but have been paved over. They still remain below the pavement. The Motel was the Tomato Cannery for the area and then was transformed in the late 1930s as a motel.
The restaurant was frequented often by Babe Ruth, Kirk Douglas, Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli, Bobbie Valli, and Jackie Gleason. Many of the performers that went to the Poconos to perform finished their evening at Hunters Lodge dining room and then stayed at the motel to avoid the crowds and fans that they just performed in front of. Also the cast and crew for the movie Friday the 13th, stayed at Hunters Lodge and dined in the dining room speaking of their next day’s set plans for the movie which was filmed at camp Nobebosco in Blairstown. A recent movie fan film for Friday the 13th sequel was filmed there as well in 2018 and 2019 and will be debuting the premier showing in 2021 at Hunters Lodge.
The restaurant serves made-from-scratch home-cooked meals with fresh ingredients steaks, seafood and Black Angus hamburgers among many of the other popular dishes between the food and the history Hunters Lodge is known by the locals as legendary.
